Operators
qualify Trusted Logic's dual CDMA/GSM Card
High-qualify,
secure dual cards now ready for roll-out
Versailles,
February 7, 2008
Trusted Logic, the leading provider of secure and open technology for
embedded systems, today announces that two operators have qualified its
highly secure dual CDMA/GSM cards, in partnership with SIM card
manufacturers.
GSM and CDMA are the two
standards used for mobile communications: the first mainly in Europe
and increasingly in South America; the second in North and South
America, Asia and Africa. All GSM and CDMA cards must be qualified -
tested to work properly on the operator's network - before commercial
roll-out.
Dual CDMA/GSM cards allow
operators
using one standard to promote roaming with operators using the other
standard. Furthermore, they allow CDMA operators - who traditionally
issue only a handset without a card - to benefit from the greater
flexibility and enhanced user experience offered by cards (elimination
of phone configuration delays, continuity of subscriber experience
regardless of change in handset, etc.).
An Asian
and an African operator - whose identity is protected by
confidentiality agreements - have already qualified Trusted Logic's
dual card, meaning it is now ready for roll-out on their networks. Four
more operators - from Asia, Africa and the Middle East - are expected
to qualify the card by the end of the first semester this year.
While
dual GSM/CDMA cards have been around for a while, operators will now be
able to choose dual cards with a high level of security. In fact,
Trusted Logic has built security into the very foundations of its
operating system, which has already achieved a Common Criteria EAL4L+
certification, making it suitable for banking cards. Trusted Logic's
operating system is currently aiming for a Common Criteria EAL5+
certification.
"To tap the true potential of
mobile services - from mobile payment to mobile TV - security is
essential. Mobile network operators can now have all the benefits of a
dual GSM/CDMA card, coupled with the high security they expect from
Trusted Logic's products", said Patrick Trane, Executive VP of Trusted
Logic.
